Tox

All three are neuromodulators, which are injectable medications derived from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. They work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles.

• Botox® – The first FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer and a widely recognized name. It’s versatile and effective for treating many areas, including frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. Results typically appear within 5–7 days and last about 3–4 months.
• Dysport® – Similar to Botox® but formulated to spread more easily in the tissue, making it particularly effective for larger areas like the forehead. Dysport® often shows results faster, within 2–3 days, with effects lasting about 3–4 months.
• Daxxify™ – The newest option, Daxxify™ uses a special peptide to help stabilize the active ingredient, which allows it to last longer. Results can last 6–9 months for many patients, offering a longer interval between treatments.

Facial expressions cause wrinkling of the skin, and over time, those wrinkles become deeper. Botox®, Dysport® or Daxxify™ can be used to relax the muscles which cause certain wrinkles to develop in the first place. It is especially effective for lines around the eyes and forehead, which are caused by repeated muscle contractions over time.  

Treatment with Botox®, Dysport®, or Daxxify™ is quick and straightforward—usually taking just 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. A very fine needle is used to place small amounts of the solution into the targeted muscles. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick pinch, and any discomfort is minimal and brief. The more experienced the clinician, the less pain you will feel during the treatment. Bruising is possible but not common.

There is little to no downtime afterward. While mild redness or pinpoint bruising can occur, these side effects are uncommon and temporary. Experienced injectors, like our team at Lasting SkinSolutions®, use advanced techniques to keep treatments comfortable and results natural.

You’ll typically start to see results within 3 days and 2 weeks, with maximum effect achieved after 3-4 weeks. The smoother appearance usually lasts about 3-4 months. People who stay on a regular schedule of treatments will find that as time passes, each session’s results last a little longer, and wrinkles seem to disappear because they are no longer being created by the action of the muscle.

The effectiveness of tox decreases with age: The older you are, the less effective it will be, as deep expression lines may have already developed. These medications cannot completely eliminate deep wrinkles, which have persisted over time; but instead, relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles to form or deepen.

The effects of Botox®, Dysport® and Daxxify™ usually last about 3–4 months, but the exact timing can vary from person to person. Some people find their results last a bit longer, while others prefer to maintain a more consistent look with more regular treatments. On average, most patients schedule injections 3–4 times per year to keep their skin smooth and to help prevent lines from coming back. Over time, with consistent treatment, you may also notice that lines become less pronounced and injections may be spaced a little farther apart.

Many people choose to begin preventive tox treatments in their late 20s to 30s, when fine lines first start to appear. Starting early can help soften expression lines before they become deeply etched.

Many people think that there is a risk of contracting botulism from these medications. This is false! You would have to swallow Botox®, Dysport® or Daxxify™ in large amounts to contract botulism.

People who should not have treatments are those known to be allergic, pregnant women, and people with certain neurological disorders or predisposed weakness in the area of treatment.  Your clinician will thoroughly review your medical history prior to treatment.
